I paint with encaustic (pigmented wax) and acrylic, incorporating ordinary events and objects into my
paintings as symbols for the extra-ordinary. A tape measure may represent life’s brevity: dice, its
uncertainty. The baskets are mandalas, suggesting unity or wholeness. Bones, of course, are death.
Petroglyphs represent the past, artist ancestors who have gone before us, and keep us connected.
I always work in layers, whether with acrylic paint or encaustic. The layers not only give a physical
depth to the work, but also a psychological one. I am represented by Art and Stones Gallery, Las Vegas and Studio W, Ruidoso. I teach the encaustic process and my work is included in juried exhibitions, private collections, arts and crafts fairs, and annually in the High Road Artisans open studio tour. Visit my web site for a list of these activities and events. . . Harriette Tsosie |
